Katherine gained her reputation as the most tyrannical woman across the Inner Sphere. She was responsible for the sundering of the Federated Commonwealth by taking the Lyran half and forming it to create the Lyran Alliance: her own personal empire. She even went so far as to drop the Davion half of her surname and called herself, "Katrina Steiner" after her late (and well-respected) grandmother in order to masquerade her image as a peacemaker. Katherine's lust for power made her into a madwoman who would manipulate or assassinate anyone who opposed her rule. Even family was not exempt, as she was responsible for the deaths of her mother, Melissa Steiner-Davion and brother, Arthur Steiner-Davion (the latter of which inspired Victor to ignite the Fed-Com Civil War). Katherine's brutal ways instilled followers in both Davion and Steiner units known as the Loyalists, who followed her sadistic and harsh methods among her soldiers. Though not all Loyalists followed her, such as Adam Steiner after her messy handling of Blair Atholl with Clan Jade Falcon, caused him to withdraw his support for her. Katherine's rule to power as "Archon-Princess" ended with Peter Steiner-Davion's defeat of Nondi Steiner on Tharkad, taking the former Archon to Arc-Royal into custody to stand trial.

Fortunately for her, rescue came in the form of Khan Vlad Ward of Clan Wolf who demanded that Katherine be released to Clan custody or Clan Wolf would attack the Inner Sphere as Vlad mentioned the expiration date of the Truce of Tukayyid. As a result of the threat, Katherine was handed over to Clan Wolf, where she spent the remainder of her life learning to be a warrior. Her presence caused an uproar among the Clan as many warriors challenged Khan Ward to various trials over his conduct due to his treatment of favoritism over her. This attention ended after his death and the ascension of new Wolf Khan, Ivan Kerensky, who removed her from active warrior status. Though Katherine was still in the Wolf Clan, she created (and groomed) Alaric Ward from her and her brother Victor's genes during the Dark Ages. Though Alaric rose to become ilKhan, ironically she died by his hands, using the same type of methods she did to claim power. As a result, Kathrine's legacy lives on with her son, Alaric.
