The Avalon Hussars were initially founded as a brigade of approximately eight regiments around the time of the founding of the Federated Suns in [[2317]]; the first regiment to be founded following the destruction of an existing regiment was the [[Ninth Avalon Hussars]], founded to replace the [[Third Avalon Hussars]], who were destroyed in the 2360s.<ref name="FR:FS2765p8"/>

The '''Fifth Avalon Hussars''' was one of the fourteen active [[regiment]]s on the rolls of the Avalon Hussars [[brigade]] when the end of the [[Age of War]] was marked by the creation of the [[Star League]] and the formation of the [[Star League Defense Force]]. The Fifth Avalon Hussars LCT was equipped with large numbers of fast tanks and 'Mechs in 3145. Their 'Mechs were all jump-capable and most could top 100 km/h over land. They used this speed to great effect when they faced the [[Third Capellan Chargers]] on [[Cammal]] in 3145. The Fifth was able to match the Charger's speed, and as a result spoiled every one of their strikes.<ref>''Field Manual: 3145'', p. 74</ref>

In late March 3146, the [[3rd Capellan Chargers]] returned to Cammal. They employed the same tactics as their earlier raid, and the Fifth deployed to repel the raid. However this wasn't a raid and once the Hussars had engaged the Chargers, the [[3rd St. Ives Sentinels]] dropped behind the Hussars and routed them.
