Can someone please delete this file? <nowiki>[[:File:OA RW 2583.png‎]]</nowiki> - it's one of a series of maps I've produced for an upcoming article on Operation UNION HOLD, the Star League invasion of the Outworlds Alliance during the Reunification War. Having made and uploaded it, as I prepared notes for the article I discovered a couple of mistakes; I considered uploading a revised version of the map, but then decided that the map was entirely too cluttered to be particularly helpful, and have instead replaced it with two new maps. Whereas this map tried to cover all of the combat actions in 2583, the replacement maps cover actions up until March 2583 (the invasion of Cerberus) and then the remainder of 2853. That makes this original map both inaccurate and redundant. Many thanks! [[User:BrokenMnemonic|BrokenMnemonic]] 07:49, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

:I was actually thinking about this subject today, so let me give my thoughts. I was thinking of creating different categories for each faction, "AFFS Units", "AFFC Units", "DCMS Units", "Clan Jade Falcon Units", "MAF Units", and so on and so forth. I was considering breaking it down with different categories in the same way that [[:Category:BattleMechs by weight class|BattleMechs are broken down by tonnage]]. For instance, [[:Category:Regular Units]] could take you to [[:Category:CCAF Units]], which takes you to [[:Category:Victoria Commonality Ranger Units]]. Each category along the way would list all of the units therein (a la [[:Category:BattleMechs]], [[:Category:Heavy BattleMechs]], [[:Category:70 ton BattleMechs]]). I think it is still appropriate to leave the descriptions of the brigades that are present on the military organization articles there, but expand upon them in full articles (in the same way that ''[[Handbook: House Steiner]]'' gives some info on them, but ''[[Field Manual: Lyran Alliance]]'' gives them a more complete treatment).

::Tnx for your responce. When you wrote we don't need that content in the mech articles. Is that the opinion of the overall majority of the users or only of a few? Because it is for myself difficult to jump from manufacture to another and to get an overall overview which modell is produced by which manufacturer. And let me some time I will show you that some production lines could be added. I need the time to sort them after manufacturer and modell. I think I can incorporate those infos by the individual variants to. It takes longer but the info is an enrichment to the sites. The original text will not harm only one or two sentence will be added. [[User:Neuling|Neuling]] 11:12, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

:::::I think it's good to add relevant information to articles, even if that information is on a different article (except in certain circumstances). In this specific instance, I think adding the production location of specific variants of military vehicles is a good addition. I have had a couple of concerns about this that I have raised with Neuling in the past. First, be certain that the information is supported by canon information; sometimes it can be tempting to add something for the sake of completeness, but we have to be certain that the information is stated somewhere rather than creating our own conclusions (for example, there may be no information about where a specific variant is produced; it can be tempting to state that the variant is produced at the same place as the standard model, but this may not be the case). Second, I would prefer to see the information integrated into existing sections, as with the above example of the ''Lightning'', rather than creating an entirely new section for it. Did I miss anything? --[[User:Scaletail|Scaletail]] 00:22, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

::::::Hy good catch, but i give you this example, we don't need it on some BattleMech, Combat Vehicles pages, we have the [[Heavy Tracked APC]] page, in the infobox we add the manufacturer, at this example [[Quikscell Company]] he is added on the vehicle page, you go to it and found the vehicle is produced on [[Ares (planet)|Ares]], you hit the Ares link then you come to the planet page and se Ares is a Capellan Confederation planet and was produced on it, i don't want merged content on the 'Mech, Combat Vehicle sites that don't follow the Project Template. Neuling have good ideas but the problem is, he don't follow any policy, project or ref. policies and follow the right formating, take a look on [[Wars of Reaving - Timeline]], iam really sadly to say this, i don't fix or correct any contributions that he provide in next or future time, iam to tired, i talke to often to the problem, he is as a long time contributor (circa 1-2 year) on sarna and don't follow anything, this is my opinion, please talk to me when iam wrong.--[[User:Doneve|Doneve]] 01:16, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

=== Editing Articles for a Class ===

Hello,

I’m an MS student of technical and professional communication at Arizona State University. For a class, I need to edit at least sixteen pages of content for a client who will inform me about what to edit and how. Could one of you administrators be this client for me?

Sarna already has resources for people to edit articles, but in addition to those resources, I need to communicate directly with a client for the class assignment. Naturally, I’m not charging anything and am a BattleTech fan who uses Sarna.

Thanks,

Mark R.

:Always ready to help a fellow BT fan, and also happy about every contributor here. But I'm not sure if I understand the rules that apply here - can you explain the what & how guidelines we should give you a bit more? [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 16:07, 7 June 2021 (EDT)

Of course I can.

My assignment is to find a real, live person with at least one real document needing editing. As a real person, you only need to do three things:

(1) Convey to me your needs and wants for the finished product. This can be as simple as telling me to follow the instructions for editing articles, which are found in these locations (let me know if I missed anything): https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Help:Cleanup?fbclid=IwAR20j-5uqJOUomvyGGl-tKVUcdLkctLm8PzyN4gOkkq41TsWgG0a5rbgtN0, https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Category:Cleanup, https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Policy:Manual_of_Style, and https://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTechWiki:The_perfect_article.      (2) My professor may send you an email because she wants to verify that you are a real person. Respond to this email, and prove you are real.

(3) After my work is complete, receive an email from me that details my editing goals and objectives and how I met them.

-Mark

:Okay. Would article creation also count? E.g. check the Hero Mechs section in the [[MechWarrior Online]] article. HF22 recently added weblinks to the Lore texts that PGI published going with the Hero Mechs. Each of these needs to be turned into an article of its own, in the fashion of ''[[Story of the Legend-Killer]]'' which can serve as a good template. [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 16:03, 8 June 2021 (EDT)

Unfortunately, since this is a class on editing, article creation will not count. I do need to write articles to boost my portfolio and intend to write some articles in the future, but I don't have the time now. -Mark

:Understood. I take it you're not seeking to add content at this point, but want to edit articles in the sense of text flow, grammar, punctuation etc.. I'll find some "editing quests" for you on existing articles that need cleanup. Any ideas regarding the article size you're looking for? (Also, I'll continue this project on your [[User talk:BiggRigg42|user talk page]] from here on.) [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 05:20, 10 June 2021 (EDT)

=== Web Archive and old BattleTech websites ===

I am not sure where or how this should be directed.  I have recently been using Web Archive for certain articles (and learned some things along the way).  Given some of the idiosyncrasies of certain olds URLS's, I drafted a quick set of notes, titled titled [[WebArchive Notes]], regarding Web Archive and a list of some of the more typical `old sites'.  Also I was not able to find anything that already seemed to capture this.  The second half is a bit similar to [[Links]], but with  a more historical view that captures one that are no longer active.  So I have two notes/comments.

1) This is really meant as an aid to editors/researchers, so I am not sure where it should properly be housed or under what categories it should be placed.  [I suspect that the `Help' category may be one possible place(?)]  But aids to editors would seem to be a delicate area, one requiring a different type of curation.  In any case, this needs a proper place.

2) This is a first draft.  And it may be a bit of an info dump.  (Shakespeare it ain't.)  So it could use the refinement of appropriate sets of eyes and appropriate writing skills.  (Also I don't think I have the `muse' needed for its next level of edits.)  Please feel free to revise, add, subtract, and divide as you see fit. [I realize that this may mean it will simply lie on the shelf for a bit.]

Best,  --[[User:Dude RB|Dude RB]] ([[User talk:Dude RB|talk]]) 23:56, 21 June 2021 (EDT)

:Many editors have this kind of research link collection on their userpages (eg. [[User:BrokenMnemonic#References From Other People]] is a list that I occasionally use). It's a matter of taste wether or not you prefer to create a subpage to your userpage for this.

:The other idea, if you're trying to create a [[meta-source]], is to go down the [[Policy:BattleTech Essays|Essays]] route. But I think the userpage approach is better. [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 03:59, 22 June 2021 (EDT)

::Frabby, thanks for the info.  This is helpful for knowing the lay of the land.  Revanche, thanks for finding a place under Help.  That seems to suit its nature as a guide quite well. --[[User:Dude RB|Dude RB]] ([[User talk:Dude RB|talk]]) 21:28, 24 June 2021 (EDT)

::: I hadn't seen this prior conversation, but, yes, I agree the Help category seems to work; Essays are supposed to be off-limits to edits by others; this one also felt less like an opinion piece and more of a research tool. (You might have noticed I gave it a slightly more-enticing title on the [[Main Page]].) Again, thank you for writing a rather decently put-together guide.--[[User:Revanche|Revanche]] ([[User_talk:Revanche|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Revanche|contribs]]) 22:09, 24 June 2021 (EDT)

::::Yes, that is definitely a good place for it.  As a guide, it should definitely retain the ability to be edited by others as it will likely need the ability to be adapted as the years go by.  For one, I never addressed a citation format when referencing old websites, so that is a potential expansion.  And there may be some other key old sites to be added to the sample list sooner or later.  I saw the title on the main page.  That title definitely has a stronger draw and gives a better sense of the `what-for' for someone who doesn't know what the web archive is or does.  That is a good touch.  --[[User:Dude RB|Dude RB]] ([[User talk:Dude RB|talk]]) 22:36, 24 June 2021 (EDT)

=== New Mechwarrior Books ===

I apologize if this is the wrong forum. I have just completed two books about a female mercenary during the Fourth Succession War. She is the daughter of the Bandit Queen, Bloody Mary Callahan, and born at the end of the Jolly Roger Affair. Callahan and her raiders are caught and almost eliminated by the Headless Horsemen mercenary brigade. In order to escape, Callahan must leave her daughter, Diane, behind and she does so to Sven and Greta Prokowski, officers of the Horsemen. Years later, Diane has a contract to attended the College of Military Science, NAIS, in return for a tour of duty with the AFFS. Through a Duke's manipulation, Diane is assigned to the First New Ivaarsen Chasseurs and is with them for the invasion of New Hessen, Alrescha, and Yangtze.

Diane is sent to Solaris by Prince Davion to undermine Liao efforts there under the name of Anya Terrel.

I guess my question is, where do I go from here?

When my protagonist, Diane, goes to Solaris, she assumes the identity of Anya Terrel, who is the Grand Champion in 3029. Diane also pilots a quad. I need an editor who is familiar with the Battletech Universe nad to make sure Catalyst isn't going to kill me if I self-publish it. {{Unsigned|‎ RedFox |14:40, 18 July 2021}}

::: Ah, misunderstanding on my behalf. I thought you meant "completed ''reading'' them, not writing. :)

::: Sarna cannot offer advice for you here, as none of us can speak for CGL. You need to contact CGL directly. May I suggest submitting the stories to ''[[Shrapnel (magazine)|Shrapnel]]'' for possible publication as canon? [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 15:15, 18 July 2021 (EDT)
