Rebecca "Spreadsheet" Taylor
SpamBot attacks and the New user message bot
Excuse me Nic, never done this before, but how do I get Rebecca "Spreadsheet" Taylor added to the Canon character's page?  She's my late fiance and in Rec guide 12 Livewire2112 (talk) 21:14, 12 May 2021 (EDT)

: Hello, Livewire. I am reasonably sure that if the character is canon (I don't have #12 yet), they will be added in some fashion. However, if you want to prime the pump a bit, and are not familiar with wikis, I'd recommend opening a similar character (maybe from an earlier Guide) and starting an article named Rebecca Taylor, copying all the stuff (text & code) over into the new article, changing everything that doesn't pertain and adding what is needed. Some other Editor will be sure to follow behind and correct any mistakes or add needed info. Good luck, and I'll be looking for the article (and the Guide).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:21, 12 May 2021 (EDT)

We have recently had huge numbers of spambots making accounts. If you look at the User List the New user message bot currently stands at 787 in the last 30 days. The last time I checked (about 2 weeks ago) it stood at 970 in the last 30 days, and this has been going on for about 3 months now. Luckily as far as I can tell these spambots are not actually doing anything to the wiki beyond creating the accounts themselves BUT as an admin I am finding the New user message bot is "clogging up" the recent changes list and making it difficult for me to actually keep an eye out for other suspicious edits. Is there anything we can do about this?--Dmon (talk) 12:14, 15 September 2020 (EDT)

*EDIT, Just in the time it took me to write this message and then test the user list link worked we had two spambots create accounts making it 789!--Dmon (talk) 12:15, 15 September 2020 (EDT)

**I'm honestly not sure if there's anything more we can do.  We have the ReCaptcha enabled for creating new accounts, but they're still getting by it.  I'll investigate to see if there's anything newer. Nicjansma (talk) 19:46, 6 January 2021 (EST)

As I have noted in the To Do List, certain words are misspelled dozens or even hundreds of times on this website. I and several other users have expressed interest in starting a project to remove common spelling mistakes. My goal is to fix any searchable misspelling (ie, it can be found easily with the searchbar function) that occurs at least a half a dozen times on this website. Users will be able to submit common errors to the project, and the members will hunt them down and get rid of them, removing them from the list as they are eliminated. I don't know how to actually start a Project page myself, so I am asking here. --DragonoftheRust (talk) 20:57, 28 October 2020 (EDT)

* Cool idea!  I think just starting with a new page on https://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTechWiki:Projects and invite people to join! Nicjansma (talk) 19:46, 6 January 2021 (EST)

Hi Nik,

Image Categories
While reviwing images without category, I found out this one File:Götterdämmerung (system) 3151.svg, which had no category nor information unlike the rest. I remember you have the "macro" that creates them and prepares them and adds a category because I asked this to help clean the "Uncategorized Files" page. No idea why this one got nuts. I added the information. Maybe it is because of the nice german spelling, but it is not the only planet like this. Hope you can review and thanks in advance!--Pserratv (talk) 08:23, 5 November 2021 (EDT)

Hi Nic,
: Perfect thanks!  I had to hand-upload that file, because the umlaut caused issues with the initial batch.  I think the rest were OK.  Appreciate you added the category! Nicjansma (talk) 21:07, 8 November 2021 (EST)

:: No problem. Thanks to you for the macro and all other things you do for this page!--Pserratv (talk) 11:04, 9 November 2021 (EST)

Help with Uncategorized files
Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? Maybe when the image is generated it can be put in a category like "System Images". I'm asking more people, but do you have any idea?--Pserratv (talk) 04:23, 8 March 2021 (EST)

Hi Nik, I've seen that the file with only have this category: :Category:Missing copyright information do not appear as Uncategorized... unfortunately, there are a lot of files with miss this but also other information and it is quite complex to find which ones only have the missing copyright... as those ones are missing some category else... Is there any way for you to help identify them?--Pserratv (talk) 08:21, 14 January 2022 (EST)

: Hey Pserratv!  Sorry I'm not fully following.  You're looking for files that are *only* missing Copyright, but don't have any other categories assigned?  Nicjansma (talk) 14:59, 17 January 2022 (EST)

::Yes Nick, that it is. I want to see which images are missing a real category as missing copyright is a "commonplace" not a category for me. It is good to know they are missing copyright, but for me it is even more to know which ones are missing a place like being an image of a Free Worlds League character...--Pserratv (talk) 05:07, 19 January 2022 (EST)

Bug with Module:LuaTest
Hi Nic,<br>

Module:LuaTest shows up as a blue link in Special:LonelyPages, but the page appears to be deleted. Adding it to User:Talvin/Project_Orphanage#Technical_Pages shows it as a red link, and it does not disappear from the Orphans when that cache refreshes overnight.  This is hardly a showstopper bug or even close, but it's odd. Talvin (talk) 10:57, 27 February 2022 (EST)

: Strange, I couldn't find any way to make it disappear either.  Must be a side-effect of it being a LUA module. Since it's not affecting anything else (that I can tell) I'll leave it for now, but if there's a pattern of this happening I can dig into it more.  Thanks for bringing to my attention! :Category:Spanish language products is a double redirect, and it looks like it is locked up in the change propagation process since 26 March 2022.  It appears to need deletion.--Talvin (talk) 10:15, 14 June 2022 (EDT)

: Thanks.  I had to set <code>$smwgChangePropagationProtection = false;</code> first, then remove the page.  <code>$smwgChangePropagationProtection</code> is now back to <code>true</code>. Nicjansma (talk) 22:32, 22 June 2022 (EDT)
