The Mattila-Carrol forces were keen to gain revenge, but were wary of the Steel Vipers, and decided to respond to the loss of the Molten enclave by attacking Reston, an enclave recently captured by the Blood Spirits' [[79th Blood Hussars (Clan Blood Spirit)|Seventy-ninth Blood Hussars]]. The resulting battle was brief but turned bloody after several storage tanks near the ''[[Ice Ferret]]'' manufacturing facility located at Reston exploded. Each side blamed the other - although it was possible that [[Dark Caste]] forces in hiding on the planet at the time were responsible for the explosions - and with both the Blood Spirits and the Fire Mandrills accusing each other of violating the spirit of the Trial, the two forces tore each other apart. The final victors were the Seventy-ninth, but the victory cost them more than a [[Trinary]] of troops.<ref name="WoRp110"/> Matters grew steadily worse for the Blood Spirits when a Bandit Caste force launched an assault on the Blood Spirit enclaves on Barcella. The Bandits attacked in late October, and within a week had seized every enclave on the planet not controlled by the Steel Vipers.
