The outbreak of the [[First Succession War]] and the imperilment of the Federated Suns as a nation reinvigorated the spirits of both Mitrovich and the Fourth Guards. Mitrovich abandoned his defeatist attitude and committed himself to becoming a hard-charging commander who lead his troops from the front, creating a unit that would gladly lay down their lives at his order.<ref name=TP:Tp8/> Unfortunately for the Fourth Guards, when the unit was assigned to raid the world of [[Tyrfing]] in [[2788]] they were not warned about the profligate use of  [[WMD]]s during prior battles on the planet.
