Ravid Stroud was a Free Worlds League MechWarrior and diplomat turned commander of the Ravid's Reckoning pirate band.[1]

Biography

The eldest son of Ishmael Stroud, Ravid would serve the Free Worlds League as a MechWarrior.[1]

While on a diplomatic mission to the Magistracy of Canopus, Ravid's JumpShip suffered a misjump which stranded the crew and passengers on Vakarel along the League's rimward fringe with no means of outside contact. Ravid quickly took command of the survivors, but the isolation and dwindling supplies soon lead to increasing tensions and eventually leading the surviors to turn on each other. Unknown to the survivors, a non-lethal toxin in the water increasingly made them more paranoid and violent, a state that they called "the Reckoning", fueling them to attack each other.[1]

Its possible they would have eventually killed each other if it was not for a ship passing through the system, which detected signs of habitation and sent a DropShip to investigate. Ravid led the survivors in attacking and taking command of the ship, ultimately using to launch a rain of terror as "Ravid's Reckoning". Ravid's band proved highly successful, aided in part by locating LosTech Star League era weaponry, but no matter how far they roamed they returned to their homebase on Vakarel. Unbeknownst to Ravid and his band, the toxin in the water had an addictive effect that effectively forever tied them to that world, going without it for extended periods sickened them.[1]

Lasting for about a decade, Ravid Stroud's career of piracy was ended thanks to the Nik's Cavaliers mercenary unit. Hired by his father to try to make one last effort to discover the fate of his son after receiving a new lead, Baron Stroud would be appalled to learn of what Ravid had become following successful strikes against Reckoning facilities on Gouderak and Watermael. Though refusing to believe it, hoping perhaps he was brainwashed or merely an imposter using his name, Baron Stroud ultimately implored the Cavaliers to either capture or kill his son. Despite the Cavalier's best efforts they were forced to kill Ravid Stroud, log books and journals found among the ruins of the pirate's base filling in the gaps of why such a kind and even-tempered man would become a cruel and brutal pirate and give his father the closure he had sort.[1]

Notes

  • Despite the request to capture him alive, the only possible fate is Ravid's death.[1]
