The Guard Division was the planetary military of Von Strang's World.

History

The rulers of Von Strang's World, the Baron von Strangs, were constantly paranoid their world would be attacked by Inner Sphere powers. They fortified the planet, turning it into a fortress against potential invasion.[1]

Third Succession War

By 3025, Otto von Strang had managed to build up the military forces to more than a battalion of BattleMechs supported by two DropShips and a JumpShip, and he had launched a number of raids against outposts on the border of the Lyran Commonwealth.[1]

Clan Invasion

When Clan Jade Falcon invaded in 3049, the Guard Division used all of their assets in vain to prevent their capital city from being captured. These fortifications included weapon turrets, underground bunkers, and a series of dead-end valleys which would be used to trap and ambush the enemy. Military forces included 'Mechs, tanks, and aerospace fighters.[2]

Tactics

The Guard Division's modus operandi was to do whatever was needed to repel an invasion force. That meant using its aerospace fighters to destroy incoming DropShips before its troops could make landfall, or deploying its tanks to ambush enemy forces in cul-de-sac valleys. Knowing these units could not stop an attacking force outright, they were intended to slow down their advance and lure the enemy closer to the city, where at that point the bulk of the Guards would emerge from a complex of underground garages and attack the invaders from behind.[2]
