In the last round of her [[Trial of Bloodright]] for the [[Vong (Bloodname)|Vong Bloodname]], sometime before October [[3050]], she handily defeated a subordinate in her unit, [[Star Commander]] [[Linwulf]]. Linwulf remained resentful of her commander following this defeat, and considered avenging herself using dishonorable means.<ref name=CHSS />

From at least 3050 to [[3052]], Layne Vong was a [[Star Captain]], commanding Sixth-third Assault Trinary, [[12th Bear Chevaliers (Clan Ghost Bear)|Twelfth Bear Chevaliers]].<ref name=ICp39 /><ref name=MFSp25 /> In this role during [[Operation REVIVAL]], as part of the Ghost Bears' fourth wave in October [[3050]], Vong and her Trinary participated with the remainder of [[Beta Galaxy (Rasalhague Dominion)|Beta Galaxy]] in the conquest of [[Soverzene]] from the [[Draconis Combine]].<ref name=MFSp25 />
