Realistically, the novel writers often found ways to incorporate the latest 'Mechs and other equipment into their books, probably pushed by the editors to encourage readers to buy the newest miniatures. Meh. But yeah - nothing in the novel makes it even sound rare overall, just unique to the Nova Cats.
