In the case of this article here, the unit is actually canon and the same rationale applies imho. I'm willing to take the author's assertion at face value that Ray Arrastia declared the behind-the-scenes information on the Wylde Cards apocryphal instead of outright non-canon, but such should be the exception from the rule.
