Captain James Kaufman was a Rim Worlds Republic MechWarrior and officer during the Age of War.[1][2]

History[edit]

Kaufman was a native of Persistence and was known for his hatred of the Lyran Commonwealth, following a raid which killed his wife.[1][2]

During a Rim Worlds raid in force on Blackjack, Kaufman was killed, when he kamikaze dropped on the Lyran militia’s command center. The attack however also killed the enemies command staff, whose facility had been thought proof against conventional attack, resulting in his company successfully completing its mission with minimal further losses. The circumstances of his death were well known within the Inner Sphere at the time, as its unusual nature was widely reported.[1][2]

Legacy[edit]

The Rim Worlds Army did not initially welcome Kaufman's suicidal tactics, imposing standing orders against such "misuses of valuable military assets." They were however revived during the Amaris Civil War, as part of the defense of Apollo and other worlds, as desperate Republic MechWarriors gave their lives attempting to stem the Star League Defense Force assault.[1][2]

BattleMech[edit]

James Kaufman was known to have piloted a Phoenix BattleMech.[1][2]
