==Purpose and contributions==

In mechs descriptions, I like a lot that some of them were more affiliated to a faction. For me, it added character to the universe. I was sad there wasn't a page that references the mechs most used by faction. It's why I created this essay. 
Usually, an essay is the work of one person. Unfortunately, I have very little knowledge of the lore and less access to trustworthy sources. If I allowed myself to quote some books in this essay, it's because there are sources in another article in this wiki. The absence of sources in some of this article forced me to retire the Commando as emblematic Mech for Lyran and the Wolverine for Free Wolrd. So I would be happy if people with more knowledge than me complement this essay by adding details about another period or enriching the one about the Third Succession War.

== Inclusion of 3rd Succession War "Emblematic 'Mechs" ==

If the definition of "Emblematic 'Mech" is a 'Mech that is strongly associated with a faction (typically due to that faction controlling all factories that produce said 'Mech), then perhaps the following 'Mechs should also be included circa 3rd Succession War?

* Lyrans have the Commando (since even the Commando's article says that the other factories weren't producing the Commando until 3050). TRO 3025 is also a canon reference here. 
* Davions have the Dervish (since the only factory producing the Dervish was on New Avalon). TRO 3025 is the canon reference here, I believe.

Your mileage may vary, of course, since this is an personal essay.

== Emblematic Definition ==

Does the definition of emblematic as "It's generally mean that it's this faction that uses this 'Mech the most. Usually, it's because the faction holds all, or almost all, factories of this 'Mech or have created it. The purpose of this essay is to reference such 'Mechs." not cover 'mechs that a specific faction has a strong preference for, even if they are relatively ubiquitous?

For example, during the succession wars the Blackjack was a more widely used 'Mech, but their usage with AFFS is fairly famous. This seems a pretty logical choice for an emblematic 'Mech

Another, less clear option is the Urbanmech and the Capellan Federation. The Urbanmech is often referenced as being highly utilized by the Capellans, and many of the succession wars and later variants of the 'Mech originate from Capellan space. However, it is a hugely ubiquitous 'Mech that pretty much every faction has used. Would this be an emblematic 'Mech?

:Emblematic 'Mech is not a recognised term in any of the BT sourcebooks, it is a strictly Sarna thing that resulted after years of people arguing about what classifies as a [[Totem BattleMech]]. Unfortunately Totem 'Mechs are a thing that is officially recognised in universe, but not well defined. As such an Emblematic 'Mech is whatever somebody thinks might be a Totem 'Mech for what ever faction but has never been specifically noted to be a "Totem 'Mech" in a source. Essays are a special part of the wiki where opinion is more acceptable than it would be in a standard article, the Admin team grew tired of stepping in on edit wars over the matter of what counts so encouraged users to create this essay to be written.--[[User:Dmon|Dmon]] ([[User talk:Dmon|talk]]) 16:21, 15 January 2024 (EST)
