Description
Entering a new era, BattleMechs blown the 100 tons limit with these impressive behemoths. Coming from a dark project so-called Rhodes Project in an unknown location, the Ares Colossal Class is the first representative of a new 'Mech breed. Better armored, better armed, and three legged, they were first seen during the Dark Age. Many claimed these 'Mechs were a hoax. In fact, reality is really a dark omen. Needing three crew members to operate it's weaponry and the 'Mech itself, the Ares represent a new idea of BattleMech warfare... Indeed, these 'Mechs, weighing around 130 tons (depending the version) carry an arsenal that could shame an Atlas itself (from testimonies, the fire load looks like a complete regiment fire). Remaining at an experimental stage, many of the Great Houses try to find their homeworld, but these war beasts are already harvesting more and more worlds, their green lightning face orbit as a death and destruction omen. The Ares project is know fully oriented against the Republic of the Sphere.
As part of an experimental project, only a few selected MechWarriors could test this 'Mech. It is also notable, as a secret project, most of those MechWarriors are some of the research scientist's children or family and some also received training since their very childhood, since this 'Mech is unlikely to everything that have been made since the BattleMech history.
Those 'Mechs are designed to fight alone but some lacks were quicly discovered. A new version appeared, the "Poseidon", to overcome those weakness, and is the only one to be really able to operate alone.
Armament
The armament is divided in three main categories: -Legs -Torso -Loadout
The two first are common to all versions.
- -Legs (x3) contain one Short-Range Missile 2-rack, an Extended-Range Small Laser, and two Anti-Personnel Pods each.
- -Torso bears two Long-Range Missile 5-racks and two Extended-Range Medium Lasers
- -Loadout at least, differs from a version to another...some carry a three fingered arm.
Alternate Configurations
- Alt. Config. A - Codenamed "Zeus" : the loadout bears two Extended-Range PPCs and three Short-Range Missile racks. The Zeus configuration is designed for medium range combat.
- Alt. Config. B - Codenamed "Hera" : the loadout contains one Heavy Gauss Rifle and three Extended-Range Medium Pulse Lasers. The Hera configuration is designed for medium and short range battles.
- Alt. Config. C - Codenamed "Hades" : the loadout contains one TSEMP, two MRM 20 racks, and one autocannon/10
