Deep Raid of 2987

History

During the Third Succession War, the Free Worlds League was constructing a new BattleMech facility on the world of Ling near the Capellan border. The Lyran Commonwealth decided to conduct a raid to destroy this facility before it was completed. With the extreme distance of the world of Ling from the Commonwealth border, the attack became known as the "Deep Raid of 2987".

In 2987, a task force of several dropships, escorted by a number of Chippewa fighters, moved across the Free Worlds League in secret and attacked Ling by surprise. The attack destroyed most of the Marik aerospace fighters on the ground which paved the way for the ground assault which destroyed the facility. However, the victorious forces took heavy losses on the difficult trip back to the Commonwealth after the attack.
