Nobody is quite sure where dune pups originated. They are confirmed to exist on Buckminster, but possibly elsewhere also given that it is suggested they are not native to that world.
The creature is not fully described beyond a cold, wet nose and wiry, sand-colored hair plastered against their skin like a thin sheet of armor. Context suggests a dune pup to generally be a dog analogue, and it is referred to as "mutt" at one point.
