Endo Steel is a type of steel, which may be used in the "skeleton" of a Battle or OmniMech. It has the property of being lighter than the normal skeleton but also weaker. In order to reach the strength of a normal "bone" they are made thicker. While the weight savings in tonnage can be significant, Endo Steel requires a significant number of space within a battlemech (7 slots for Clan Mechs, 14 for Inner Sphere Mechs). The weight savings for Endo Steel are greater than those saved by ferro-fiberous armor. Interestingly, ferro-fiberous armor take up the same amount of space in critical slots as Endo Steel but saves significantly less weight. Endo Steel is therefore the logical first choice for weight saving construction materials when critical space permits.
