A pathogen with no given name, this disease started as a bioweapon released by the Word of Blake during their assault on Galax in 3069, which ultimately resulted in the depopulation of that world.[1][2]

Overview

This pathogen was a tailored bioweapon, which Federated Suns researchers believed transmitted to humans who come in contact with local fauna, where it remains dormant but contagious for extended stretches of time.

The symptoms of the lethal disease include, after the first several hours of infection, the production of an enzyme that destroys hemoglobin until the sufferer doesn't have enough left to absorb oxygen into the bloodstream. This causes patients to initially have shortness of breath, followed by the effects of suffocation, and finally unconsciousness brought on by lack of oxygen to the brain. The brain deteriorates further from oxygen starvation until the patient dies.

Despite being unleashed by the Word of Blake at the same time as they deployed the Alarion Hanta Virus on Alarion, the Galax Pathogen was not identical to that bioweapon, appearing to be custom made to depopulate Galax.[1][2]
