Hoff was reputed to have a nature diametrically opposed to his clean freak commander Major Richard Jarrett, being an extremely slovenly man, who was often unshaven and with a cigarette in his mouth.
Despite always being put on report by Major Jarrett, Hoff was considered one of the best medium 'Mech commanders in the Dragoons, until his death during the Battle of Misery in 3028. Captain Hoff's body was never recovered after this battle.[2]

Hoff was known to pilot a Rifleman BattleMech, which he called "Oscar".[1][2]
