Overview
The Starfire ER Laser Rifle was a joint development project between the Nakajima and Sunbeam corporations to produce a laser sniper rifle.[1] An Extended Range Laser system, the rifle actually fires in the infrared spectrum, making the beam harder to see without assisted vision. It can also be disassembled quickly and its parts stored in a small case, such as one produced by Nakajima specially designed for the Starfire rifle.
Despite firing a more powerful laser than other rifles, the Starfire has the drawback of equally creating more heat when fired. An appropriate cool down period between each shot is required, usually a few seconds. If the weapon is fired too quickly, the shooter risks melting the plasma chamber and cracking the built-in optics.[2]
