Myomer is the name of the materials used to make the artificial muscle of a Battlemech. They are composed of microscopical poly-acetylene tubes filled with an acti-strandular fiber.

In layman's terms, a single fiber is composed of a microscopic plastic tube that is filled with an engineered mixture of bacteria and liquid polymers that, when an electric current is passed through them, they contract with great force.

Unlike the artificial muscles of today, the strength of myomer does not vary with voltage and current applied to the material. Instead, to vary the strength and force of the muscles, different numbers of fibers in a single muscle bundle are activated.
