One of the very few times a resolution was made without military force during the Age of War, the Omsol Accord was a treaty signed between the Federated Suns and the Taurian Concordat giving both nations shared mining rights to the titanium-rich moon Fontana, located within the Malagrotta system.

Overview[edit]

In 2499 the Taurian Concordat explored the Malagrotta star system and discovered on one of the moons orbiting the gas giant DeeCee was tremendously rich in titanium. But right on their heels came a Davion exploratory mission in the same system. Though colonized first by the Taurians, in an attempt to stave off an armed conflict for the system between the two nations, independent mining rights to the moon of Fontana were granted to both Taurian and Davion mining concerns while prohibiting the deployment of either the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns or the Taurian Defense Force within the system. [1] [2] [3]

Each realm's mining operations were both successful for more than 60 years until the treaty was broken in 2573 during the tensions leading to the Reunification War in what would be later known as the Malagrotta Affair. A fleet of five Taurian WarShips suffering communications problems approached Davion mining colonies[4], prompting the Davion miners to warn a nearby FedSun fleet. The larger Davion fleet was waiting for an opportunity to attack the Taurians, and as the Taurian vessels orbited the moon, they jumped in and attacked. The Taurians lost three ships, and later apologized for the incident, but the Star League would use it as justification to invade the Concordat as part of the Reunification War. [1] [2] [3]
