History
In the years prior to the formation of the Free Rasalhague Republic, residents of the Rasalhague Military District were drawn into service of House Kurita. However, their loyalty was often called into question with many only paying lip service to the Combine.[1]
The First Altenmarkt Militia was created with the intention of curtailing rebellious activity. Among the members was Tai-sa Luukas Ranta, who became more outspoken of his anti-Kurita sentiments over time. When the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery was sent to deal the matter, Ranta and a number of his loyal soldiers fled into the outer reaches of the Combine, embracing a life of piracy.[1]
The DCMS tracked Ranta's pirates to Irece, where they hired a mercenary unit to liberate a farming community, resulting in the death of subcommander Shane Shimizu. The mercenaries pursued those who escaped to a stormy world in Outer Volta, taking out Ranta's second-in-command Lucius Ueda. Luukas Ranta made his last stand on a moon base in the Unity system with his remaining supporters. They fought fiercely to avoid death or capture but were ultimately all eliminated at the behest of House Kurita, who wanted to dissuade other Rasalhagians from following a similar path.[1]
