Smith participated in a deep raid into Federated Suns held territory on Bergman's Planet in 2986, where his unit made up of Wolverine BattleMechs was outnumbered by the Phoenix Hawks and Stingers of the Deneb Light Cavalry, but survived by leading a series of fighting withdrawals. After more than a week out of communication with his headquarters, Smith's company returned without a single casualty, together with a hoard of loot and spare parts.[1]
