Dark Shadows: Behind the Succession Wars discussed ComStar's manipulations of the Inner Sphere's Great Houses in order to cause and draw out armed conflict during the Succession Wars Era. The book makes particular mention of Conrad Toyama's policy favoring covert manipulation of information and public opinion over overt acts. Specific examples used are ComStar ROM's backing of the Lyran Intelligence Corps causing a massive leak of Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery intelligence and how the subornation of Jeanette Marik allowed ComStar to puppet the Free Worlds League for several years until their duplicity was discovered.[1]
