History[edit]
After the death of his wife Casandra Bens, Doctor Paul Bens, an opinionated and decorated military academy professor, was offered a post meant to keep him useful but quiet: command of a regional training battalion on Nouveau Toulouse. Under his command, the force tripled in size, growing to a regiment of three battalions, together renamed Doc's Scorpions. They took charge of planetary defense, allowing the 2nd Avalon Hussars to be sent to engage elsewhere. Expecting conflict with the Draconis Combine, they began drilling for war soon after the start of Operation EXODUS.[1]
During November 2790, Doc's Scorpions fought in defense of Nouveau Toulouse against an overwhelming Draconis force. Much of the regiment was destroyed, either in battle or during the Federated Suns nuclear bombardment of the city. Colonel Bens was among the dead.[1] The fate of the Scorpions afterwards is unknown.
