History[edit]
Captain Schmidlap's family had been part of Grim Determination's staff for generations and, despite the unit's downturn in fortunes, repeated pay cuts, and increasingly dangerous missions, Schmidlap remained steadfastly loyal. However, Schmidlap was happy to grumble bitterly about the "bigwigs" of the MRBC and the Federated Commonwealth, whom he blamed for the unit's loss of reputation.[1]

Captain Mervyn Schmidlap piloted a Cyclops BattleMech, although the ancient machine lacked the Star League-era command computer.[1]
