This template will add tagged articles to Category:Articles to be split.

Usage

When two or more distinct topics which share the same or similar title are being written about on the same page, a content split may be considered. Consideration must be given both to notability and to potential neutrality issues before proposing a split. If one or more of the topics is not notable it may be more appropriate to simply remove the material from BattleTechWiki than to create a new article.

Parameters

If no parameters are used in the template (i.e., {{Split}}), it will display as above.

unnamed parameters for article titles

To suggest an article name (or more than one), simply pipe them into the template (or number them |1=, |2=, etc.). For example, {{split|Example}} produces:

Multiple: {{Split|Example|Foo|Bar}} produces:

Up to 20 new names can be suggested.

discuss

To specify where the discussion about this split is taking place, use |discuss=, as in {{split|Example|discuss=Talk:Article name#Talk page section}}, which produces:

To replace the word "article" (or "page", outside of mainspace), use |section=y to display "section", or use something more specific, as in {{split|Example|section=list}}, which produces:

{{split}} links talk edit	Place this at the top of a page for which a split into two or more new pages is proposed, and where they are distinct enough that a disambiguation page is not appropriate. By default, the discussion is directed to the talk page of the page on which this tag is placed. Optionally, a "discuss" parameter can be specified to direct the discussion to another page.
{{split}} links talk edit	Optionally, you can include suggested titles for between 1 and 20 new pages as parameters.
{{split section}} links talk edit	Place this at the top of one or more sections for which a split into a new page is proposed. By default, the discussion is directed to the talk page of the page on which this tag is placed. Optionally, a "discuss" parameter can be specified to direct the discussion to another page.
{{split section}} links talk edit	Optionally, you can include a suggested title for the new page as a parameter.
{{split sections}} links talk edit	Place this at the top of a page for which a split of multiple sections into a new page is proposed. By default, the discussion is directed to the talk page of the page on which this tag is placed. Optionally, a "discuss" parameter can be specified to direct the discussion to another page. If possible, instead use {{split section}} or {{split section|new title}} in each of the sections that should be split into the new page.
{{Being split}} links talk edit	Placed on pages where consensus has been made to split it, and it is in process to do so.
