BattleTech: BattleMat BFM Grasslands/Desert was a BattleMat that debuted at Gen Con 2021. Dubbed a Battalion Forces Mat, where the normal BattleMats are 34” x 22”, the massive BFM measures 72” x 48" and incorporates eight maps per side and is largely intended for convention play.

The initial production run of the product was originally named the BattleTech: MegaMat only for Catalyst Game Labs to realize when first introduced at Gen Con 2021 that Chessex had a similar series of neoprene maps under the MegaMat name. To avoid any name confusion CGL voluntarily chose to rename the product, settling on the BFM title for any future production runs. Discussion about just what BFM stood for (Big Field Mat and Big F****** Mat being offered alternates) and vague rumors that the company had been subject to a cease and desist order over the MegaMat name were later discredited by CGL staff; specifically, Line Developer Ray "Adrian Gideon" Arrastia clarified that "There wasn't any sort of legal action. The naming conflict was brought to CGL's attention right when the mat premiered at GenCon, and it was decided then and there to change the name. Throughout the weekend, it was mentioned and joked about in the booth with customers and subsequently blown out of proportion.".[1]
