Manfred Leclerc was, as of 3133, a captain in the Republic Armed Forces.

History[edit]

Manfred spent much of his career as the commanding officer of the First Cossack Lancers, an elite militia unit under the control of the governor of Mirach. He led it from the day it was organized.[1]

In early 3133, in the wake of the Blackout, Mirach faced a crisis. Minister of Information Elora Rimonova, in close association with Legate Calvilena Tortorelli, plotted and agitated against the government.[2] On 16 April, Governor Sergio Ortega placed the First Cossack Lancers under the legate's command, merging them into the legate's Mirach Home Guard.[3] The Lancers, including Manfred, were scattered throughout the Home Guard, secretly serving as agents of the Governor. Manfred in particular served as a spy within the Home Guard, as well as a liaison with the Mirach Business Association, an armed faction on the planet. He trained pilots for the Business Association's fleet of militarized IndustrialMechs while observing its activities.[4]

After a series of assassination attempts left planetary heir Dale Ortega dead and Manfred on the run, former Lancer Dmitri Borodin organized a 2 May meeting between Leclerc and Austin Ortega at the Borzoi Tavern. It ended in disaster, the Borzoi aflame in another attempt on Austin's life.[5]

Elora and Calvilena launched a short-lived military coup on 3 May. It lasted less than ten days, finally collapsing on 12 May.[6] On the first day of the coup, Elora had a Mirach Business Association DropShip bombed just as Manfred was to be on board. Borodin saved Leclerc's life, providing warning of missing explosives just prior, and Manfred went into hiding until the last days of the coup to deceive Elora.[7] In the aftermath, the First Cossack Lancers were reconstituted and while Tortorelli remained legate on paper, Manfred was tasked with taking over his duties as head of the planetary armed forces.[8]

Physical Appearance[edit]

By 3133, Manfred was a stocky, fit man, 190 cm tall. He had short-cut sandy hair and bushy eyebrows. His nose was misshapen, once-broken and poorly set.[9]

'Mechs[edit]

While working with the Mirach Business Association, Manfred piloted a modified IndustrialMech.[10]
