Overview

This article will provide an deep look in the common mech cockpit. The controls of most mechs are the same and variied little. The complexity to control such a war machine need tough training for many years. The Clan cockipts are more spartan then the IS. Modern intruments allow to be change the display from for example radar to damage and others information to. [1]

The cockpit can dived in to four quarters from the left controls to the center, which is followed by the right controls. The last is the backroom.


Left Controls

  • 1. Access Hatch and Controls:
    The entrance to the cockpit has a secure lock and can be blast in dangerous situations from inside.
  • 2. Water Supply
    6 liter of water for the Mechwarrior is in an refillable container.
  • 3. Food Storage:
    For longer mission the Mechwarrior has food rations for 120 hour and chemicals to clean water.
  • 4. Medical Kit
    The cockpit contains usally a standard Medipack when the MechWarriors are wounded .
  • 5. IFF Transponder Bank
    The system includes the data of the enemy and also allied troops which is normaly maintance before battle to exclude friendly fire when possible.
  • 6. Left Weapons Display and Status
    The monitor inform the warrior with the status of weapons and the remaing ammunition or the time of recharge before ready again. The weapons can be select for differnt fire sequences.
  • 7. Primary Screen Selectors:
    The users can select between 5 modes:
    1st actives sensors on/off
    2nd IFF - the modes shows friendly mechs and doesn't allow targeting of this units
    3rd when installed the Searchlight can be used
    4th the infrared information are dived between friend and foes
  • 8. Primary Throttle—Moving
    That is the control to move a mech forward or backward. The system allow the user to select the speed. When the mech is equiped with MASC the system show the user when activated and is controlled by an additional thump button.
  • 9.Communications System Voice Controls
    The mechwarrior use the system for communication and external devices are also available.
