Welcome

Welcome, Doneve, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Doneve" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Happy New Year

Hi Doneve,
I hope 2016 is a happy, prosperous and healthy year for you and your family. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:49, 3 January 2016 (PST)

Electra

Hi Doneve, I've just updated the article for Electra and I think something odd may be going on with the system tables. Electra, Maia and Merope are all named systems in the Pleiades Cluster, but while both Merope and the Pleiades Cluster appear in the systems table, Maia doesn't. I've only got a small part of the systems spreadsheet with me at work (the systems that begin with D, basically) so I can't check easily here, but could you take a look at your copy when it's sorted for Electra, and see how far away it lists Electra and Maia as being? It may be there's a bug in the spreadsheet. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 01:41, 28 January 2016 (PST)

Hu, a bug, ok, Maia has a distance from 1,1114 in my spreed sheet, when i sort to Electra.--Doneve (talk) 04:19, 28 January 2016 (PST)
Hiya, I think there may be another bug - I've just been looking at Elix, and it has Ashburton recorded as being 28.1 LY away. Elix is in the Draconis Combine though, and Ashburton's in the Free Worlds League. Looking at the map in ER: 2750, I think it should be Ashio rather than Ashburton, but it may mean that a row has gone missing from your copy of the spreadsheet, or maybe some of the data's ended up sorted out of sequence? I went and checked the Ashio page, as Ashio doesn't appear in Elix's system table, and on the Ashio page, Elix is listed as 28.2 LY away, so it should be there. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:20, 8 February 2016 (PST)
Arg, i see it, i have two copys of the spreadsheet and i used the wrong, sorry my failur grml grml :(.--Doneve (talk) 03:35, 8 February 2016 (PST)
Ah, no harm done. You should be more worried that I've stared at so many planet articles I'm starting to remember where every planet is, and yet I still can't remember what my own phone number is! BrokenMnemonic (talk) 04:00, 8 February 2016 (PST)
Ha ha ha, I know what you mean, i looked with my wife the Game of Throns series, and after this marathon i was so confused about the story, you know what i mean :).--Doneve (talk) 16:05, 8 February 2016 (PST)

Record Sheets 5: Vehicles

Umm, Doneve - we already have that article (and cover image) here: BattleTech Record Sheets Volume Five: Vehicles... Though I have no idea why there wasn't a redirect in place. Frabby (talk) 05:18, 31 January 2016 (PST)

Ups, please delete my new page.--Doneve (talk) 05:30, 31 January 2016 (PST)

Epsilon

Doneve - Can you upload the Epsilon Regiment insignia from Field Manual: Mercenaries, Revised ? Thanks! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 14:57, 11 March 2016 (PST)

Yep, i do this. Sorry for not answerd email, i do this next day.--Doneve (talk) 16:30, 11 March 2016 (PST)

Get well soon

Doneve - Sorry to hear you're going to the hospital. Get well soon! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 11:36, 17 March 2016 (PDT)

Planets Spreadsheet

Hi Doneve,
Do you want a copy of the spreadsheet I put together to make producing the nearest system tables a bit easier? It's not particularly elegant, but it saves a certain amount of time typing. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:26, 19 April 2016 (PDT)

Hi, i want absolutly ;) a copy, then i can go on to update the nearby systems table, thanks.--Doneve (talk) 00:29, 19 April 2016 (PDT)
I'm just home from a boardgames evening (unfortunately, the Thunderbirds crashed and burned, and the Hood probably went on to achieve world domination) and I've uploaded a copy of the spreadsheet here: http://www67.zippyshare.com/v/Ae5DOjBp/file.html - it's got the details for El Giza in it at the moment, as that's the last planet I worked on. If you use Volt's spreadsheet to identify the nearest neighbours, then copy and paste the nearby systems within 60 LY and the distances into the two populated columns on the left, the column on the far right then updates to the code for the bulk of the systems table. You still need to put the header and closing tag on it though, and it won't pick up things like redirects because it works off straight text. You also need to manually add ".0" to those jump distances that are an exact number of light years, as Excel wouldn't display a decimal of zero in a concatenated field for some reason. It saves me quite a bit of time when I'm updating articles - hope it helps. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 13:32, 19 April 2016 (PDT)
Thanks man, i look in it, if i have questions i set up a talk.--Doneve (talk) 13:36, 19 April 2016 (PDT)

Doneve, I'm constantly amazed at how much you help with both big and small changes to this wiki. Thank you for being such a great member of this community! Nicjansma (talk) 06:28, 25 May 2016 (PDT)

Hello to you to

Hey, I just saw the message on my talk page, and frankly I'm not so sure about data mining, but if you want some help adjusting those planet tables, I'd be more than happy to help! -BobTheZombie (talk) 13:49, 5 June 2016 (PDT)

Overview

Hi, I noticed you deleted the overview section on some of the units I've been working on. There are a lot of units with that section on Sarna and to be honest I think it looks so much better than having text sitting about the contents box. Dark Jaguar (talk) 15:55, 7 June 2016 (PDT)

Yep, i hope i dont step on your teeths, i use this format [<onlyinclude>] [</onlyinclude>] from User:Neufeld he provide this on some pages as example take a look here Donegal Guards, sadly he leave us, this code is only used for military unit pages and it works very well to include content as a top overview and after this we add h2 or h3 headers for the other infos, make this sense to you, sorry for my bad english...if its not clear to you please set up a talk to my friend BrokenMnemonic he clarify this.--Doneve (talk) 17:17, 7 June 2016 (PDT)
It's how I do my articles now as well, I learned after Doneve edited my formatting on my first couple new unit pages, and I just stuck doing that way.--Deadfire (talk) 17:47, 7 June 2016 (PDT)
Thanks, I think the expression is step on my feet and you're not. I was just looking for clarification. It's just that there seems to be no "template" page for military units. I've not seen the only include code before, but have seen overview as a section many times. The headings of the Donegal Guards page you showed doesn't comply with all other military units pages for the H2 headings, so I'm not sure if this is a good example to follow? Dark Jaguar (talk) 23:39, 7 June 2016 (PDT)
Looking around, I can't see a clear ruling or example - the onlyinclude code looks to be something that's been added as a good idea, rather than via consensus. An example of a page that uses it can be seen here: Federated Peacekeeping Forces. It's not perfect. The style in which individual pages are written, with the first mention of the article name in the text being placed in bold means that pages that incorporate the onlyinclude text end up with lots of bold in them, as that first mention is invariably inside the onlyinclude text. The principle of the onlyinclude text is sound - it allows brigade pages to pull in summary information from individual unit articles, updating automatically when the individual pages are updated, avoiding the problem of either things getting missed in higher-level pages when lower-level pages are updated, but it makes the format of higher-level pages inconsistent with the Manual of Style requirements for page formatting, as you end up with a lot of bold text, repeated links, and so on.
Without a clear ruling, I think we're probably best off having an editor's debate on whether to adopt or abandon the onlyinclude code, and in what format. A couple of the questions I think would need to be discussed are:
If we adopt the onlyinclude code as standard, should it be used in pages other than just military units? I know that Frabby is a fan of having a line of overview text at the top of every page (hence the summary sentence in all of the planets articles) but the number of instances of pages that pull through that onlyinclude text is currently pretty limited - the various major military organization pages are the only clear example I can think of at the moment. Do we want to incorporate onlyinclude tags into planet articles, if there's currently been no need for summary pages on planets that are aggregating together such information? Are we likely to see pages in the future that do look to pull through this information - summaries of corporations/businesses, planet summaries, etc?
Given the disruption to the consistency of the formatting, should the onlyinclude text be exempt from the standard formatting requirements such as linking the first instance of a linkable text, bolding the first mention of the article name, and so forth? Midway Shipyards

Hi Doneve I had a look, I don't have Objectives: Draconis Combine, but I changed a bit of the English so it reads more clearly. I don't think their will be any problems with plagiarism. Smiley.gif Dark Jaguar (talk) 14:30, 14 June 2016 (PDT)

Thanks a lot i want to add mor fluff stuff, and need a double checker is this ok to involve you on my pet project.--Doneve (talk) 14:33, 14 June 2016 (PDT)
Yes, not a problem. I'm happy to help. Dark Jaguar (talk) 14:45, 14 June 2016 (PDT)

Wolf Garrison Clusters

Hey Doneve, I was looking though the editing of the Clan Wolf Touman‎‎ page where you did some 3145 updates. However do we not follow the same clan unit naming structure as others when we make pages for Wolf Garrison Clusters? My example would be that shouldn't 5th Wolf Garrison (Clan Wolf) ‎be simply 5th Garrison (Clan Wolf)? --Deadfire (talk) 04:16, 26 June 2016 (PDT)

Hi, i dont updated the Clan Wolf Touman page, Dark Jaguar do this, i started always by adding missing units i found in the Wolf Empire Deployment tables in Field Manual: 3145 and i want to switch to Field Manual: Updates and Objective Raids, i checked 5th Garrison (Clan Wolf) and the correct name is 5th Wolf Garrison, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 04:23, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
Sorry I meant more the pages you created, for example you made the 18th Wolf Garrison (Clan Wolf) page but should it not be 18th Garrison (Clan Wolf) to be inline with other clan unit pages? i.e 5th Garrison (Clan Nova Cat), and 5th Garrison (Clan Smoke Jaguar)--Deadfire (talk) 04:30, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
I use the correct speeling from FM:3145, its listed as 18th Wolf Garrison Cluster, but we dont add cluster in the page name! If iam wrong or not? If its not clear set please up a talk to Dark Jaguar.--Doneve (talk) 04:36, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
Having the additional "Wolf" in the page title just seems odd when you compare it to other clans unit pages, however I have set up a talk with him to see if we can get to the bottom of this. I'll let you know of our findings.--Deadfire (talk) 04:54, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
Okidoki, thanks.--Doneve (talk) 04:56, 26 June 2016 (PDT)

Touring the Stars

Hi Doneve,
I've been pondering something lately that I thought I'd get your opinion on. The planets articles have a priority order when it comes to images for the planet infobox - if there's a flag, the flag goes in the image box, unless there's a picture of the world (like those in the Dark Age Republic Worlds (3130) sourcebook), in which case the picture of the world takes priority. How would you feel about us using the cover images from the Touring the Stars - cropped to show just the planet, without the titling, logos and so on? I'm not sure if it's possible to remove the name of the planet from the cover images, so there's a secondary question about whether to use them with the text on or not - but it struck me that with the TtS books giving us an actual picture of the planet - or most of the planet - we should maybe be using them. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 01:49, 30 June 2016 (PDT)

Absolutly, i use the Tts cover images on one or two planet articles shortly in the past and they work very well.--Doneve (talk) 01:52, 30 June 2016 (PDT)
Hi Doneve,
I hope you had a nice break? I'm off on holiday myself next month - and for the first time ever, I'm actually worried about whether I'll get enough exercise done while I'm on holiday. I must be getting old!
I've started adding the images from the Touring the Stars ebooks to the planet articles as I work through each one - it's taking me a little while, but I'm getting there slowly. I can't capture a decent image of the planetary maps, though - I either get one where the image is truncated, or where the text ends up too small to be legible. Is there any chance you can get a decent copy of the single-page world map from TtS: Inglesmond for the Inglesmond article? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 22:55, 14 September 2016 (PDT)

Heiligendreuz

Hi Doneve,
I hope you're well? I've started trying to lose a lot of weight (over 100kgs) so I may be more active on here for a while as I distract myself from feeling hungry all the time Wink.gif
I'm trying to update the article for Heiligendreuz, and one of the things I was looking at is trying to work out when it was conquered during REVIVAL. It looks like it was a Wolf world, but I don't have the Clan Wolf sourcebook here - could you possibly have a look in your copy and see if there's any mention of when it was captured, and how?
I originally through it might've been captured by someone else in the initial invasion and then captured by the Wolves later on, so I did some hunting through maps, and it looks as if this map: File:CJF&CSV OZ 3052.jpg has ended up in the wrong area - it's labelled up as the Clan Jade Falcon and Clan Steel Viper OZ as at 3052, but it's actually the Clan Wolf OZ. If you're not busy, could you possibly upload the CSV/CJF 3052 map from ER:3052? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 01:57, 8 July 2016 (PDT)

Hi BM, yep i take a look in the Clan Wolf sourcebook, and yep i uploade the maps, give me a little bit time, iam on work Wink.gif.--Doneve (talk) 02:02, 8 July 2016 (PDT)

Sakhalin (CC)

Hi Doneve,
I hope you're well? This healthy eating regimen of mine has expanded to include trying to go swimming on a regular basis, and while I'm still building up to that, I've established that I move through the water with all the grace of the Titanic - while it was sinking! It does give me more time to think though, so I've been doing more work on here as a result. The longer I keep at it, the more chance I have of living long enough to do some travelling again, and there's a delightful woman in Hamburg I've been promising to visit for a while, plus I have another friend living near Neuschwanstein, so give me maybe three years, and it might be time for me to do a tour of Germany. Assuming I make it that long, I have every intention of dragging you out for a few beers, given the opportunity - so I thought I should warn you in plenty of time, to give you a chance to prepare Wink.gif
On a more mundane note, do you have access to a copy of Operational Turning Points: Capellan Crusades? It's one of the books I never bothered picking up (my interest in the Capellans is largely Age of War and earlier, but in updating the article here for Sakhalin (CC) I discovered a discrepancy - someone's cited OTP:CC in putting the number of planets in the system as 2 in the system box, but also cited it for naming the inhabited planet in the system as the 5th, which doesn't make sense. If you have a copy, could you possibly check the planetary information for Sakhalin to see what's going on? I also noticed that it listed both a Planetary Legate and a Planetary Governor in 3111, which suggests that it was a Republic of the Sphere system, but I can't find anything else to confirm that - the map of the war in Historical: Wars of the Republic Era shows it being attacked by the RAF, but doesn't indicate if it was ever a member or not. I'm a little confused, as you can probably imagine... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 23:48, 7 August 2016 (PDT)

Hi BM, all is well the coming days are busy prepare for the holidays and so on. A Germany tour Smiley.gif, this was perfect you stard in Hamburg, then you move to Frankfurt then we can hang around drink some beer hehe and i can give you a little Frankfurt tour then you can move to Neuschwanstein Wink.gif. Okidoki i check OTP:CC and let you know what i found.--Doneve (talk) 02:01, 8 August 2016 (PDT)

Eridani Lawsuit talk page

Hi Doneve,

You reverted Cray's comments and links to pertinent published legal documents on Talk:Eridani Light Horse lawsuit‎, marking it as Spam. Was that deliberate? I think Cray's links were enlightening on the matter, and really belong into the article proper. Frabby (talk) 05:20, 17 August 2016 (PDT)

Upps sorry iam in holidays and checked sarna for a few minutes, i reverted my mistake.--Doneve (talk) 06:11, 17 August 2016 (PDT)
Ah okay, just a mistake then. No worries then! :) Frabby (talk) 08:23, 17 August 2016 (PDT)

Map

Hi Doneve,
Do you know anyone who might have a large, hi-res version of the 2786 map as a single image and who'd be willing to share it? I'm contemplating a map project where I try and map out which systems changed hands in each year of the First Succession War, year by year, based on the descriptions and detail in the sourcebook. I know it's a daft idea, but... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 14:49, 3 November 2016 (PDT)

Hi BM, i look what i can do, but iam not at home, tomorrow iam at home!--Doneve (talk) 05:10, 4 November 2016 (PDT)

FSW Deployments

Hi Doneve,
I spotted something odd about the 1st Arcadian Cuirassiers deployment in the AFFS tables, which I asked a question about over on the CGL forums; Adrian Gideon has confirmed that there are some errors in the AFFS deployment table, which he's spelt out here - as you're powering through the deployment tables and updating planet articles, I thought you'd like to know Smiley.gif BrokenMnemonic (talk) 23:52, 10 November 2016 (PST)

Ah, thanks for the info.--Doneve (talk) 04:46, 11 November 2016 (PST)

Regulus

Afternoon, Doneve. Hope you are feeling well.

I had a user of Sarna contact me to say the location image for Regulus showed the wrong location for the planet. I was hoping I could convince you to confirm that and maybe grab/modify an appropriate one, if true. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:55, 20 November 2016 (PST)

Hiya, i checked my maps and it is right the location is wrong, you know Nic created the images for the planets automaticly in the wake of sarna, i hope this helps, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 11:18, 20 November 2016 (PST)
Thanks, mate. Yeah, I told the user that. But we can replace them with canon map images. I figured you might have one or the ability to modify one where Regulus is centered.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:40, 20 November 2016 (PST)
Sorry for the late response, i can do this but not at this time, must look to beauty nurses.--Doneve (talk) 17:56, 12 December 2016 (PST)
The long-term plan is still for me to generate loads of replacement map images when the planet articles are ready for them. Unfortunately, it's been 18 months and I'm still only a third of the way through updating the planet articles to the new format, so it's going to take a while... I could try doing Regulus as a test case, though. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:19, 13 December 2016 (PST)

Firgrove

Hi Doneve,

I'm away from my TROs at the moment, but I've found something odd in the Firgrove planet article I'm hoping you could check out for me. The planet article lists a Geenock Flight Academy as a manufacturer, and a Greenock Aero Manufacturing, Ltd.. Objectives: Federated Suns has the Geenock Flight Academy listed, and mentions that it put the ancient Vulcan fighter back into production during the Jihad. That made me wonder if Greenock Aero Manufacturing should actually be Geenock Aero Manufacturing, as the Greenock Aero Manufacturing page lists it as producing the Rondel and cites TRO:3145 Federated Suns as the source. However, when I look at the Vulcan article, it has a mention of the Vulcan being put back into production by Greenock Flight Academy, not Geenock Flight Academy, and cites TRO:3075 as the source. It could be that it really is Geenock Flight Academy and Greenock Manufacturing Ltd, but I suspect that either Geenock or Greenock is a typo - I can't check that without access to the TROs though, and I'll not be able to get at my copies until next week. Is there any chance you could take a look? The flight academy is going to need a manufacturing company article made up for it whatever we do, as they produced those Vulcans for at least a little while. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 04:06, 23 February 2017 (EST)
