Plot summary
Two members of Free Skye - a man named Pollard, and a woman named Korwyn, are on Hesperus II gathering intelligence to be used by Free Skye when they launch the fifteenth battle for the BattleMech factories operated by Defiance Industries. The two are working with a native of Hesperus II named Ellison, who's providing an overview of the terrain and showing them the key locations from previous battles, having been vetted as an informant by Free Skye. While Pollard and Ellison argue about the value of intelligence in warfare, Korywn makes extensive notes and attempts to prevent Pollard from breaching operational security, while keeping Ellison talking.
When their reconnaissance trip is done, Korwyn sends her report up through the Free Skye chain to help with their mission planning - and sends a second, more covert message out to inform another party, implied to be the Lyran intelligence services, of what's happening, revealing herself to be a deep cover agent within Free Skye.
