Overview[edit]
A battalion-sized element of BattleMechs belonging to the pirate group The Hateful Survivors landed on Wisconsin in 3140 and immediately began terrorizing the major cities. The independent world had recently hired the mercenary unit Pandora's Box to protect their world,[1] but that unit quickly found it difficult to contain the pirate forces in a stand-up fight. Breaking three lances composed of Koshi BattleMechs off from the main force, these were sent ranging through the pirate flanks and rear in an attempt to locate their DropShip landing zone. Despite their speed, three of the twelve fell in the process of infiltrating past the front lines. However, once clear they ranged out in search of their objectives. One lance, commanded by Lieutenant Sarafina Black encountered the pirate command lance. This lance was composed of heavy and assault ’Mechs that both dwarfed her force but also carried ECM gear which prevented Black from reporting her discovery. Apparently unable to disengage, Black's Lance made repeated slashing attacks against the superior force which ultimately brought down three pirate ’Mechs including the commander of The Hateful Survivors. Despite, or perhaps because of, Lieutenant Black's notable courage in this engagement she was ultimately killed in the exchange. The two remaining Koshi lances succeeded in their primary mission and located the pirate DropShips, enabling artillery strikes on them.[2][3][4]
