Gustav Sharae was the commanding officer of the Lyran Commonwealth task force sent to capture Finmark's orbital shipyards in 2792.[1]

During the First Succession War, amidst the loss of so much of the Inner Sphere's industrial infrastructure, Kommodore Sharae was dispatched with a naval task force to claim the former Rim Worlds Republic shipyards in orbit around Finmark in 2792. Sharae's force quickly eliminated resistance at the planet's zenith jump point before making contact with the new Finmark Free Republic. After two days of negotiating with the less-than-enthusiastic planetary leaders, Sharae's marine contingent, two Leopard CV DropShips, and the Vincent-class destroyers LCS Ulm and LCS Potsdam moved in to secure the shipyard facilities. While Sharae expected some kind of trap, hence the deployment of two WarShips to escort what was meant to be a bloodless boarding action, he and his task force were completely unprepared when the Free Republic detonated a nuclear device inside the shipyard itself.[1]
Instantly losing the marines and DropShips, with the Potsdam left disabled and the Ulm unresponsive to hails, Sharae's fleet soon came under aerospace and strategic nuclear attack from Finmark itself. While emergency evasive maneuvers saved those vessels that hadn't been sent to secure the shipyard, both the Potsdam and Ulm were obliterated in this follow-up attack. With no strategically-valuable assets left in the system, an enraged Sharae ordered his fleet to saturate Finmark with their own nuclear weapons, ignoring any pleas for mercy and leaving the world fatally wounded.[1]
