Smith was working as a field correspondent on the isolated Lyran Alliance world of Abejorral in 3072, when its interstellar trade was disrupted by the ongoing Word of Blake Jihad. Smith reported that Abejorral had responded to these events by turning inwards for its economic health, focusing on self-reliance, as part of a broader trend on many worlds at the time towards isolationism.[1]
