Joey Zanfino was, as of 3134, the bodyguard of Free Eagles leader Vanja Matas.[1]

On Avellaneda sometime after the Blackout, construction worker Zanfino shielded injured then-RAF lieutenant Vanja Matas from rioters. Zanfino was hit by falling brickwork and fell unconscious, and when he came to, he reported seeing the spirits of former Free Worlds League Captains-General declaring Matas 'the new Marik'. Afterwards, he served as Matas's bodyguard, backing Matas's claim to the Captain-Generalship.[1]
