Nichthimmel

Description[edit]

Nichthimmel ("Not-Heaven" in German, apparently a play on "Nachthimmel" which means Night Sky) is an individual NGS-4S-L Nightsky, tailored suit for a left-handed MechWarrior and notably described as "left-handed". The implication is that its configuration is mirror-reversed from a regular NGS-4S, with the hatchet on the left arm.[1]

As of 3057, it had a camouflage pattern of grays and browns, with the name Nichthimmel in black letters above the snout of the left torso laser.[1]

History[edit]

It was described as factory fresh when it appeared in the coreward periphery area around 3056 with Tatiana Himmel as its pilot.[1] The 'Mech had originally been ordered for a "formerly naive young FedCom scion of monumental stupidity" in the Crucis March by her doting father, as Himmel thought of her; although no foul play was involved (or so Himmel felt), whatever had transpired left said scion a mortally embarrassed rich kid disappearing and lying low, and Himmel absconding as far from House Davion space as possible with the 'Mech just in case the original owner overcame her shame and decided to come after her. (At one point, Himmel muses about the "mentor gambit" and how the young scion shouldn't have blindly trusted the first veteran to take her under her wing.)[1]

By May of 3057 Himmel was leading a lance of unregistered mercenaries, and had been hired for an attack against the PEn-NAM mining habitat in the Viborg system. Over the course of that action, she unwisely engaged the jump jets while fighting on the outer hull of the habitat, which resulted in the 'Mech spiralling off into deep space with no means of meaningfully maneuvering it back as the jump jets were far too powerful to use in a zero-g environment. The essentially undamaged Nightsky was claimed as salvage by an asteroid miner on a small powered craft after the fight who offered to either tow Himmel to safety or to return after a month to collect his 'Mech. It was subsequently awarded by the miners to Alexandra Atreus for her commendable efforts in defense of the habitat.[1]
