Samuel Rafel was the stepgrandson of Thomas Hogarth. Early in his life, he realized how polarizing a figure Thomas was. In contrast to his relative Reiner Hogarth, Samuel has focused on earning promotions through merit and avoids trading on his family connections. He has earned two battlefield promotions so far, and prefers to apply his grandfather's tactic of overwhelming firepower without the theatrics that characterized most of Thomas' actions.[1]
