2nd Andurien Hussars

History

A relatively recently-formed brigade within the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces, the genesis of the Andurien Hussars lay in the peace treaty brokered by the Terran Hegemony in 2556 that ended the Third Andurien War. The Andurien worlds were handed over to the Capellan Confederation, and Chancellor Terrence Liao awarded the worlds full Commonality status as an attempt at reconciliation. The Andurien Hussars were established to be the military formation associated with this new Commonality.

The Second Andurien Hussars was one of two regiments within the Andurien Hussars to serve continuously from founding through the era of the Star League. While their sister regiment, the First Andurien Hussars, was tasked with restoring law and order to the worlds of the Andurien Commonality, the Second Andurien Hussars were established to serve as the Commonality rapid-response unit. Having acquired "The Villanuevan Jinetes" as a nickname, the Second Hussars spent the next two hundred years largely preoccupied with destroying the hideouts used by pirate forces near the border between the Confederation and the Periphery; during the period of general disarmament during the early years of the Star League the Second Hussars would do this alone, but after the order limiting the size of the Great House militaries was rescinded by the Star League council in the twenty-eighth century at least two more sister regiments - the Sixth and Seventh Andurien Hussars - would be founded to support the Second as the number of incidents of bandits plaguing the Commonality continued to rise.

Despite two hundred years of dedicated effort by the numerous commanders of the various regiments of Andurien Hussars, the Second Hussars found itself in a somewhat difficult situation in the mid-twenty-eighth century; as a whole, the Andurien Hussars were generally well-regarded. Many of the personnel within the Andurien Hussars were still Sianese or Capellan in origin, although natives of the Andurien Commonality made up slightly more than half of the strength of the Hussars. However, while the average citizen of the Commonality regarded the Hussars as a slightly foreign regiment imposed upon them by the Capellan government, those Sianese and Capellan soldiers within the Hussars were considered to be generally honourable warriors whilst those Andurien natives within the Hussars were regarded as undisciplined thugs and opportunists pandering themselves. This created an underlying feeling of tension that constantly bubbles between the Hussars and the local population, even two centuries after the formation of the Hussars.

Tactics

The Second Hussars were largely equipped with swift, light BattleMechs, creating a regiment that would quickly become experienced skirmishers skilled at pirate-hunting.

Despite the tension between the Second Hussars and the population of the Andurien Commonality, the Second Hussars were considered to be a veteran regiment of reliable loyalty and were stationed on Banfora.
