Description

Design of the Bonaventure-class corvette was one of last acts of the failing Terran Alliance. As Admiral James McKenna was staging his political coup, and removing corrupt politicians from the Alliance government, McKenna ordered design of the Bonaventure as insurance and a means to consolidating his growing power base. Indeed, the Bonaventure-class was instrumental in consolidating the Terran Hegemony after re-organizing in the wake of the McKenna Coup.

Among contemporary naval vessels, the Bonaventure-class was superb. The class boasted one of the most (if not the most) sophisticated sensor suite designed until the beginning of the 25th century. However, compared with most other vessels, the Bonaventure was not well armed. The weakness of the Bonaventure became apparent after Hegemony operations over Capella. Thereafter, the Bonaventure was relegated to squadron formations of 4 Bonaventures, or surveillance squadrons composed of paired pairs of Bonaventures and Vigilants. These surveillance squadrons would patrol shipping routes in and out of the Hegemony. Bonaventures were also deployed as picket vessels to garrison the Terran Hegemony border.

The Bonaventure-class was replaced by the introduction of the Vincent Mk. 39-class corvette, introduced in 2432.

Armament

The Bonaventure is poorly armed, even compared with vessels of similar size dating from the Terran Alliance. Only against AeroSpace Fighter is the Bonaventure not severely under-gunned. For naval engagements, the vessel boasts only a single pair of naval lasers. Against smaller targets, the Bonaventure can hold its own with an array of lasers, autocannons and long-range missiles.

Cargo

The Bonaventure-class was not intended for transportation, and boasts no Dropship collars. The vessel does possess three cargo bays, 1 for a pair of small craft, 1 for a single squadron of fighters, and a last bay capable of storing 53,926 tons of supplies.

Named Vessels

Terran Hegemony
  • THS Cochran - The sole surviving vessel among its squadron, the Cochran and its squadron were ambushed after jumping into the Imbros III system during a normal patrol. A squadron of Kurita destroyers were raiding the system, and quickly "sunk" the rest of the squadron. The Cochran ran from the invaders, hiding in the system's asteroid field, and ambushed solitary destroyers as they hunted for the lone survivor. Despite being over-matched, the Cochran was able to destroy two of the destroyers before being defeated. Shortly after the incident, the Terran Hegemony commissioned the THS Cochran, a Monsoon-class battleship, in its honor.
