The Citizen's Honored was built around the well-respected 4th Tau Ceti Rangers, with the 15th Dracon and Lockhardt's Ironsides joining them several months later.[1]
Laurel's Legion, a former Liao employed mercenary unit that served the Federated Commonwealth after their homeworld of Tigress was captured in the Fourth Succession War, was added later. The Legion responded to Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao's invitation for all expatriate Liao units to return home. This decision was supported by their home world despite the fact it remained in House Davion controlled space. [1]

The various component elements of the Citizens' Honored retained their own color schemes and insignia with one exception, as a reminder of their years of mercenary service two thin silver lines symbolizing money are painted on a 'Mech's lower leg, AeroSpace Fighter wing, or rear quarter of a Combat Vehicle.
