Cullen Craig was an officer with the Northwind Highlanders, serving as the commanding officer of Stirling's Fusiliers, Third Battalion in 3058.[1]

History

Cullen enlisted into the Northwind Highlanders and rose to the rank of Major, commanding a battalion on Stirling's Fusiliers. On that regiment, under Major McFranklin's command, the unit become too little specialized. By 3058, McFranklin's death and replacement by the former Capellan Loren Jaffray caused trouble, both to Craif and to Major Kurt Blakadar. Jaffray wanted to turn the regiment into a better trained one, and his complete overhaul disgusted both Majors, which complained soundly, both to Jaffray and to his superior, Andrea Stirling, resisting the changes.[2]

After the Fusiliers had been contracted to take Wayside V from the Clan Smoke Jaguar, he, along with Blakadar, the 14 May, had a meeting with Loren and the unit's Chief Technician. Jaffray discussed with them the changes to the unit, incorporating all available Jump Jets 'Mechs to the regiment. Craig loudly protested it, but Jaffray refused to change his orders. The same day, Craig went to protest directly against colonel Stirling, but she refused to change Loren's orders and gave him all his support.[3]

Wayside V

Once on Wayside V, he assisted at a meeting the 3 July. he suggested to entrench in the Isthmus of Bannockburn, to dig and hold, awaiting the reinforcements, but when the other officers said than that was impossible, he refused to change of opinion. When Loren interrogated a captured Jaguar, Kerndon, Craig was present, and when he refused to answer to Cullen's questions, as he wasn't his bondholder, Craig almost hit the wounded clansman[4]

The 9 July, during the battle of the Isthmus of Bannockburn, he fought at the frontal line, with the Jaguars' Star Colonel Roberta attacking. He fought a Mad Dog and later some Elementals. He repeatedly asked Blakadar to intervene, but Blackie ignored his orders until Stirling called him.[5] After the battle, Craig was tired and argued against Stirling's plans repeatedly, laughing about Stirling's belief than Jaffray would return from his mission to draw Clan Nova Cat forces there, and the Colonel had to made him shut up.[6]

The 22 July, when the Fusilers had retreated south, Craig was even more nervous, and once again argued against Stirlings' strategy, but offered himself to command the rearguard the Highlanders had to leave behind, when crossing the airless continent. She feared Craig may have cracked, but he violently argued against it when Blackie gave him his orders.[7]

the 25 July, the rear guard fought the Jaguars, but the overwhelming attack was too much to hold, so he ordered his forces to disperse. His Victor was knocked down, and when he awoke, he uncovered the bodies of his slaughtered people. More furious than ever towards Jaffray and Stirling, he rose his 'Mech and get to the way to the meeting point.[8]

The 8 august, he arrived at the meeting point, and was appalled to see Nova Cats fighting the Jaguars. He became mute after seeing than was wrong about Jaffray, and he had accomplished his plan.[9]

Independent Mercenary

But his survival to the Battle of Wayside (3058) didn't appeased Craig: after returning to Northwind, he addressed to an Assembly of Warriors, blaming Jaffray for all the losses, and when they refused to listen him, he left the Highlanders and promised to revenge of their treason, as he called it.[10] By 3067 Craig had joined Swann's Cavaliers, where he was the commander of Charlie battalion. He was a popular choice to succeed Colonel Edmund Repplier, the Cavaliers' commander.

BattleMech

Craig's only known 'Mech was a Victor.[11]
