The [[Armed Forces of the Federated Suns]] training battalions offer the opportunity to enter the AFFS (or [[AFFC]], when that was the name of [[House Davion]]'s military) for citizens who do not have the finances or social background to gain an entrance at a primary academy. The units have special agreements with privately run training facilities. Instructors select potential candidates after observation and after passing a series of test the applicant will be accepted. Each cadet has a senior cadet and a command staff member as adviser. The best cadets graduates after 24 months, while others need 60 months. After they successfully ended their learning tour, they graduate as good [[MechWarrior (pilot)|MechWarriors]]. The training applies to technicians also. Most primary academies have their own training cadres. The size depends on the financial support from the each parent command. The units had special agreements with privately run training facilities. Instructors selected potential candidates after observation and a series of tests. Training took from two to five years, after which the students graduated as either MechWarriors or technicians.
