History[edit]

The MechWarrior nicknamed "Metalhead" was a member of the Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros, in 3056. A Kiowa from one of the three Southwest Trinity worlds, Metalhead was a very big man, with a hawk nose set in a dark, round face - as well as a fairly ample paunch. Metalhead was a member of the Caballeros' Infante Company, serving under the colorful Captain Santos.[1]

On the 22nd of September 3056 Metalhead was one of the combatants in a duel with knives filmed by Archie Westin and his assistant Mariska "Risky" Savage. Duelling with knives or even machine pistols was a method for letting off tension within the Caballeros, and the practise was actually discretely encouraged by the Caballeros Commanding Officer, Carlos "Tiburon" Camacho as a way for the fractious population of the regiment to blow off steam without resorting to fighting each other in 'Mechs, something that was explained to Westin and Savage by Lieutenant Senior Grade Cassiopeia Suthorn during and after the fight. Metalhead's opponent was Macho "Macho Man" Alvarado, a darkly handsome fellow MechWarrior with extremely fast reflexes. Although Macho scored first blood, gashing Metalhead across his gut, Metalhead was the victor, knocking Macho down and pinning him in place for a potentially lethal strike; that blow didn't fall because the duel supervisor, Captain Kali MacDougall, bashed Metalhead over the head with a pool cue and declared the duel over.[1]

Notes[edit]

  • Metalhead is only identified by his nickname in the novel Close Quarters, with no mention of his given name.
  • Metalhead's rank is not given in Close Quarters, but the majority of the MechWarriors from the Caballeros who have their rank specified in the novel are Lieutenants, either Junior Grade or Senior Grade, making it likely - but not certain - that Metalhead was a Lieutenant of some rank too.
