Description
Sponson turrets are experimental pieces of equipment that are available to both combat vehicles and support vehicles. Often though not always mounted in pairs with one on either side of a vehicle, the sponsons allow for the placement of even larger weapons in small turrets that can protect the sides of a vehicle. This allows a vehicle to fire its side mounted weapons in a 180-degree arc, instead of the usual 60-degree arc.
Sponson turrets were an experimental technology until 3079, after which they began to be mass produced and deployed by various powers. [3]

Game Rules
Sponson Turrets are available to ground, naval, and VTOL Combat Vehicles, as well as Support Vehicles. But are restricted from Airships, Fixed Wing units, and satellites. Once mounted the sponsons have the option to carry virtually any weapon. The turrets have a 180-degree arc that can cover everything on its mounted side of the vehicle from the hex row directly behind the vehicle to the hex row directly in front, and do not require their own independent armour and structure values as they are considered to be covered by the vehicles armour. For the purposes of critical hits, the weapons mounted on the sponsons are considered side-mounted weapons. Additionally, the sponson turrets cannot be jammed.
Each sponson weighs ten percent of the weapons they carry (though power amplifiers, ammunition, and targeting systems are excluded from this), rounded up to the nearest half ton. Each turret is not required to house the same equipment. [4]
