The Star League Exploration Command, which seems to be the same service branch as Exploration and Colonisation Command, SLDF Exploration Command, and SLDF Explorer Corps, was a branch of the Star League Defense Force navy concerned with surveying unknown stars. It was a precursor to ComStar's Explorer Corps.

Overview[edit]

The Star League Exploration Command was founded by Star League Defense Force Commanding General Nicholas Kinnol at some unspecified time before his death in 2646 as a sub-command of the SLDF navy charged with surveying star systems.[1][2] In November of 2788, the SLDF reportedly created a Exploration and Colonisation Command; it is unknown if this was a distinct organisation or a reorganisation of the pre-existing Exploration Command.[3] It was at one time headed by Admiral (and future Khan of Clan Snow Raven) Stephen McKenna.[4]

Science/Survey squadrons of JumpShips, DropShips, and occasionally WarShips were charged with expanding human knowledge and discovering new systems, both inside and outside of settled borders. The worlds discovered were both a source of raw materials and led to the founding of hundreds of new colonies. Solitary vessels to over a dozen ships performed science missions for months or years at a time.[1][5]

SLDF Navy[edit]

The SLDF's Fourteenth Fleet worked in conjunction with the Explorer Command during peacetime.[6]

Known Missions[edit]

In 2763 during the leadup to the Amaris Coup, an SLDF exploration team stumbled across a covert Rim Worlds hidden facility deep in the Periphery. The SLDF forces were destroyed by the planet's defenders.[7]
