According to this article brawlers are long ranged. This is almost the exact opposite of what I would have said. I understand that there ought to be differences between Brawlers and Juggernaughts but I really think we ought to step back and reconsider these battlefield roles (as I understand it the Sniper category has similar problems), couldn't we use terms less subjective such as "Fire Support" and "Scout"? --Greyhind 00:32, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Let's be clear: these aren't terms that I made up whole-cloth, or even by fan committee. They are battlefield roles as put forth in the Classic BattleTech Introductory Rulebook. Please check my interpretation with the link in the article to the free PDF file. If you find definitions that are clearly defined (i.e., "A Fire Support 'Mech is..." rather than "...a 'Mech that performs in a fire support role"), then that would merit a similar BattleMech role article. And, I'd not be surprised if you can find such a reference. However, fans may definitely use these terms in other ways or use other terms for similar roles. Check out the fan essay "BattleMech Roles" by iamfanboy. I prefer his definitions over those from the Classic BattleTech Introductory Rulebook, but those the Rulebook definitions are official. (To be honest, I'd agree with you that the term 'Brawler' seems more similar to 'Striker', but the writes make the distinction in the weaponry carried by each.)--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:07, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
