Threnody is a famous portrait by the 21 Century Terran artist Alessandro Mekam. The portrait encapsulates the character of pre-First Exodus: a child dying of malnutrition transfixed by the glow of a holovid, then a cutting edge technology. The portrait was particularly apropos, as the Western Alliance had focused its efforts on technological innovations, and while the Alliance did try to stamp out hunger and disease, its efforts (especially when pitted against increasing population size) were not sufficient.[1]
