Tai-sa Toshio Hayashi was the commander of the Fifth Ghost Regiment, with the Draconis Combine, from at least 3144 to 3147.[1]
History
In 3144, during the Combine's invasion of the Federated Suns following the Palmyra Disaster, Hayashi participated in the invasion of Rochester. During the Fifth Ghost's landing, Hayashi's unit lost half its conventional Regiments, when their DropShips were shot down by the Rochester militia's aerospace fighters. Blaming his fighter wing commander for conducting ground attacks instead of providing air support as ordered, Hayashi had them publicly executed after the end of the campaign, making clear to his troops no such disobedience would be tolerated.
In response, his Yakuza troops attempted five different times to assassinate Hayashi, though they were not successful. His approach was however popular with the Gunji no Kanrei, and he slowly reduced opposition to his command in the Fifth Ghost by using his detractors as canon fodder in constant attacks against the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, suffering nearly fifty percent losses to his BattleMech regiment as a result.[2]
By December 3145, Hayashi and the Fifth Ghost, were based on Franklin.[1]
